First mental health trust member of NHSA announced

The Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) has announced its first mental health trust member since it was founded seven years ago.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) is the first mental health trust to join the alliance of the North’s leading universities, research-intensive NHS trusts and four Academic Health Science Networks.

RDaSH provides mental health, learning disability, drug and alcohol services and community health services across Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. As an NHSA member its research team, called Grounded Research, will be able to engage with the NHSA’s joint research partnerships, advocacy, business development and international and national programmes.

Dr Nav Ahluwalia, RDaSH’s Executive Medical Director, who heads the research team, said: “The NHSA is at the forefront of establishing multi-partner collaborations between healthcare systems and leading industry from medtech to pharma, biotech and digital health companies.  It’s exciting and excellent to be working with them.”

Hakim Yadi, the Chief Executive of the NHSA, said: “The NHSA works across the North of England giving a voice to, encouraging collaborations with, and drawing investment into the exceptional health research taking place in the region.

“RDaSH’s work pioneering new community-based approaches to health research is incredibly exciting and we are delighted to be working with such a dynamic forward-thinking team.”

The Northern Health Science Alliance has brought over £60m worth of contracts to the North of England. It has been named as a delivery partner in the Government’s Life Sciences Industrial Strategy Sector deal and revealed over £1bn of investment in the region’s life sciences.
